"I see ceramics as a journey rather than a destination. It’s not just about the finished piece but the growth and learning that happen along the way."

About Me

I’m a ceramic artist Alla Tchernycheva based in the Niagara region. I was born in Russia, Moscow and moved to Canada at the age of 18. My work is inspired by the textures and forms found in nature, drawing on the organic beauty of the world around us. For me, ceramics is a constant journey of evolution. I’m always learning, experimenting, and pushing the boundaries of what I can create.

These days, I enjoy experimenting with all sorts of ceramic techniques, from nerikomi (mixing colorful clays) to sgraffito and coiling. I love textures and details, especially those that invite people to touch and think.

It’s been quite the journey, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next. Check out my portfolio, and feel free to connect with me if you’d like to chat about art or explore a collaboration!

Artist Statement

Through clay, I explore the intricate dance of form, space, and color. Each piece is an exploration, much like Alice's journey down the rabbit hole—where the deeper you go, the more there is to discover. Clay offers me a medium to challenge perception, where colors create illusions and blur the lines of form, leading the mind to question and rethink what it sees. Though harmony is often key in my work, there are moments when I intentionally break it to provoke thought and spark curiosity. This process, for me, is a rediscovery of self, an invitation for both creator and viewer to step outside their comfort zone.

Nature deeply informs my creative process. Textures and shapes inspire me, from the silhouette of a tree against the sky to the smooth curve of a seashell discovered on the beach. I am drawn to the beauty in what often goes unnoticed—the organic shape of a stone or the fine details found in petals. Gardening, too, feeds my creativity, allowing me to interact with nature on an intimate level as I cultivate plants and flowers. In my work, I aim for viewers to feel a tactile connection, encouraging them to touch, interact, and engage with the material. Ceramics reminds me that everything is in flux, and through this constant change, I find freedom, healing, and expression.
